Syria and Ukraine on Wednesday discussed the possibility to finally conclude the Syrian-Ukrainian free trade agreement that was initialed in 2011.
The discussion came during a meeting held by Economy and Foreign Trade Minister, Mohammad Zafer Mihbek, with the Charge d’Affaires at the Ukrainian Embassy in Damascus, Yevhen Zhupeyev.
Talks focused on the steps needed to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields, including particularly signing agreements to prop up national currencies in Syria and Ukraine.
Minister Mihbek highlighted the importance of organizing regular exhibitions and establishing markets in both countries, in addition to setting up a Ukrainian free industrial zone in Syria.
For his part, Zhupeyev indicated no difficulties that might hinder the efforts to continue bilateral cooperation, noting that necessary approvals by the Ukrainian government regarding the free trade agreement project are being worked on.
