Reynders accused President Assad of ‘lies’ and said “If nothing has changed Thursday, the international community should start thinking about the next step.”
He argued for including the sending of a UN mission that could establish a “humanitarian corridor”.
Reynders is a good personal friend of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
Reynders is also a member of the liberal party of MEP Guy Verhofstadt who is pleading for a strong European army and military interventions. In 2009 Verhofstadt has been put forward as the possible candidate for replacing José Manuel Barroso as the president of the European Commission by a coalition of greens, socialists and liberals. Since 2012 is Verhofstadt a Board Member of the Brussels-based, Brussels-quoted Sofina holding (petroleum gas and oil platforms). He can look forward to a fee which is in line with that of the other directors, who last year received an amount between 42.000 134.000 euros. The Belgian industrialist Viscount Etienne Davignon is Honorary Director of Sofina.
Verhofstadt pleads actually for a supply of heavy weapons to the so called ‘Free Syrian Army’ but these arms seem to have been already delivered…
