Netanyahu, Furious Over Israeli Intelligence Opposition to Iran War, Cancels Security Cabinet Meeting

    September 6, 2012

One day after the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronoth published the story that the U.S. will not “have Israel’s back” in a strike against Iran, Prime Minister Netanyahu had a fit against his own Security Cabinet and cancelled the council’s meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 5, even as the officials were meeting about Iran.

In a wild rant, Bibi said that he was dismissing the NSC because of “leaks” to the media that violated the “trust” of the security cabinet. He railed that he has “a responsibility” to the citizens and the “security of the state,” to protect secrets; therefore, “I am breaking up this meeting.”

The real sin of the “leak” was that Ynet news (the English version of Yedioth) had revealed that Israel’s intelligence agencies have reports about Iran’s nuclear program that “conflict” with Bibi’s war drive, and that these conflicting views were affecting members of that body. As of late Sept. 5, Bibi was reportedly considering polygraphing all members of his own security council at the behest of Energy and Water Resources Minister Uzi Landau, who told the press, “Until the person responsible for the leak is found, this forum cannot be convened.”

Bibi’s paranoia has escalated over the last week, ever since U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Gen. Martin Dempsey’s August 30th Media Roundtable at the U.S. Embassy in London, where he openly challenged Obama’s war policy, not only on Iran, but also on the question of attacking Syria over chemical weapons.

Reviewing the last week’s statements and actions by U.S. military circles that oppose the British Obama war, it is obvious why Bibi is livid: he sees that Israel’s establishment circles are operating in parallel with the U.S. military opposition to the outbreak of world war. The following is a brief summary of the last week’s developments, which were reported as they unfolded as LPAC and EIRNS slugs.

    * On Aug. 31, one day after Dempsey’s London statements, Time magazine runs a major “exclusive” story that the long-delayed U.S.-Israel military exercise called “Austere Challenge,” is being scaled back from 5,000 troops to “1,500” and perhaps “as few as 1,200.” Israeli media reports begin screeching that this reduction shows that relations between the U.S. and Israel have seriously deteriorated (see separate slug).

    * August 31-Sept. 4: Many thousands of articles have been put out repeating Gen. Dempsey’s statement that he does not want to be “complicit” in a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran.

    * Sept. 3: CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus reportedly arrives in Israel for secret meetings. Most of the U.S. press reports that he is going to Israel to assuage concerns about Dempsey’s remarks. But, instead of a calmer climate, the Israeli media continue to explode with even more stories about U.S./Israel tensions over the British Netanyahu/Barak war against Iran.

    * Sept. 4: Israeli press issue a number of serious warnings against Netanyahu. Ynet news publishes the report that the U.S. has sent an indirect message to Iran that it will not back an Israeli strike if Iran doesn’t retaliate against the U.S.; and Ynet publishes the “leak” about Israeli intelligence disagreements with Bibi’s Iran danger assessment. The same day, former CIA Chief Michael Hayden gives an interview to Ha’aretz in which he cautions Israel against striking Iran.

    * Sept. 5: Prime Minister Netanyahu cancels his security cabinet meeting in a rage against “leaks.” For the record, Haaretz reporter Amir Oren calls Netanyahu a “serial violator of Israeli gag orders,” saying that Bibi’s denouncing of leaks is “sadder” than Casanova denouncing adulterers.

Netanyahu, Lieberman furious over Abbas’ UN speech
In his speech to the UNGA, Abbas said Israel is planning to ethnically cleanse Palestinians, that it wants to destroy the two-state solution, and that it is trying to bring the PA’s collapse.

    Sep.28, 2012

NEW YORK – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman are furious over the speech of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, in which he claimed that Israel is “planning a new Nakba for the Palestinians.” Netanyahu and Lieberman believe that his remarks are incitement against Israel.

Mahmoud Abbas, who spoke at the UNGA for thirty minutes, said Israel is planning to ethnically cleanse Palestinians, that Israel wants to destroy the two-state solution, and that it is trying to destroy the Palestinian Authority.

The Israeli representative who was sitting in the room during the speech was Haim Waxman, Israel’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations – not the most senior of Israeli officials present in New York for the general assembly. At that time, Netanyahu was sitting in a side-room with Foreign Minister Lieberman, watching the speech online on a laptop. Abbas’ speech angered the prime minister, and he decided to add a response to the speech in his own address to the UNGA.

“We won’t solve our conflict with libelous speeches at the UN,” the prime minister responded to Abbas during his speech.

During his meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York an hour after he gave his speech before the general assembly, Netanyahu was very critical of Abbas. According to a source familiar with the proceedings of the meeting, Netanyahu told Ban that the content of Abbas’ speech was bordering on incitement.

Netanyahu expressed great frustration over Abbas’ dealings with Israel, especially given that over the past few weeks Israel has been providing emergency aid to the PA in order to prevent its economic collapse. Netanyahu told the secretary general that Israel has transferred advances of tens of millions of Israeli shekels to the Palestinians, and that it has taken other a series of other significant steps in recent weeks to help the PA, while Abbas did not mention one word of this in his speech, instead addressing only sharp criticism at Israel.

“Mahmoud Abbas did not say anything about what Israel did,” Netanyahu said. “What did Arab states do for him lately? He just presented a distorted picture. This raises questions about the point in taking all of these steps.”

Foreign Minister Lieberman expressed even harsher criticism during his meeting on Thursday with the foreign ministers of France and Russia, Laurent Fabius and Sergei Lavrov. “Everyone who heard the speech of Mahmoud Abbas here understands that he does not intend, and does not want, to be a partner in a peace agreement,” Lieberman told his counterparts.

According to a western diplomat, Abbas’ speech at the UNGA was a sign of the weariness of the Palestinian Authority President. This weariness, the diplomat said, has come out in meetings between Abbas and the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with the UN secretary general, and with a number of other leaders during his time in New York this week.

“In all the discussions Abbas says that he has had enough and that he is going to resign from his position,” the western diplomat said. “He even said that he has asked the Palestinian leadership to pick someone to replace him.”

NATO’s war on Syria: U.S., Israel, Germany, Turkey

Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman who, for tactical political reasons, recently announced that he withdrawned temporarily, proposes since 2001, to establish four townships in the occupied West Bank, hermetically sealed, which would be grouped the Palestinians.
More recently he has improved his plan.
He sees it as a solution for the Palestinian citizens of Israel, who are more than one million, to move the vast majority of the group in tightly closed, self-administered areas.
Thus would arise a State ethnically homogeneous from the Mediterranean Sea until the Jordan, sheltering in its midst Palestinian “Bantustans”.
Lieberman, besides his ministerial duties, is the leader of Israel Beteinou (Israel Our Home), a political party openly racist and Arabophobia.

Ethnic cleansing returns to Israel’s agenda:
