OTTAWA, Canada, (SANA) – Canada on Friday announced that it listed Jabhat Al-Nusra as a terrorist group under the Criminal Code.
AFP quoted a statement issued by Canadian Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness as saying , “Jabhat Al-Nusra is an organization that has claimed responsibility for nearly 600 terrorist attacks, including car bombings and suicide attacks that have killed scores of innocent Syrian civilians,” adding that listing this terrorist entity, which has publicly sworn allegiance to Al-Qaida, is an essential part of the Canadian government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Steven Blaney said “The safety and security of Canadians is a priority for our government, and the listing of terrorist entities sends a strong message that terrorist activity will not be tolerated.”
Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri announced in a voice message the cancellation of the so-called ‘ the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham’ to arrange terrorism under two new names of ‘the Islamic State of Iraq’ and ‘Jabhat al-Nusra for People of Sham’.
Last year, the USA designated al-Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra as a terror group.
