PALESTINE

1) On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

2) In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was deeply grateful to the United States after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On  Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

About kruitvat

I am working for the Belgian human rights association 'Werkgroep Morkhoven' which revealed the Zandvoort childporn case (88.539 victims). The case was covered up by the authorities. During the past years I have been really shocked by the way the rich countries of the western empire want to rule the world. China calls for substantial progress in Palestinian-Israeli peace talks

UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 22, 2013 (Xinhua) — China on Tuesday called on Palestine and Israel to achieve substantial progress in their newly-resumed peace talks as soon as possible.
“The Palestinian-Israeli issue is at the core of concerns in the Middle East, bearing on the overall situation in the region, to which dialogue and negotiation represent the only viable solution,” Wang Min, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, said at a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.
“China has consistently maintained that, through peace talks between Palestine and Israel on the basis of the relevant United Nations resolutions, the principle of land for peace, the Arab Peace Initiative and the Middle East road map, an independent State of Palestine can be established with complete sovereignty, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, whereby the two States, Palestine and Israel, live side by side in peace and security,” he said.
The Chinese envoy said that with the renewal of the direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians, a significant opportunity arises in the Middle East peace process.
After a nearly three-year hiatus, U.S.-sponsored direct peace talks between the sides resumed in late July with a goal of reaching an agreement within nine months. The core issues include the delineation of borders, the future of Jewish settlements on the West Bank, the fate of Palestinian refugees and the status of Jerusalem.
“It is our hope that Palestine and Israel will overcome difficulties, move closer towards each other, refrain from words and acts that may derail the prospects for peace talks, and try to achieve substantial progress as soon as possible,” he said.
Wang stressed that the immediate priority is to take effective measures to halt all settlement activities and stop acts of violence targeting innocent civilians, so as to maintain favorable conditions for the peace talks.
Meanwhile, the international community needs to scale up its support for the Palestinians in order to enhance their confidence in the peace process, he said.
“Currently, the security and humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, remains grave,” he said. “The relevant United Nations resolutions must be effectively implemented, and we hope that Israel will lift its blockade of the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and alleviate the humanitarian situation there.”
Wang also told the Security Council meeting that China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinians for the restoration of their legitimate national rights, and has been promoting the peace talks through its own means.
“China stands ready to work with the international community to make a positive contribution to an early achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East,” he added.
